The technical dead end: why the old Magento frontend failed
To understand the brilliance of Hyvä, we need to look at the problem it solved. Magento 2 shipped with a frontend stack that was already technologically maxed out at launch. It relied on a massive chain of Knockout.js, RequireJS and so-called UI components.
This system was so complex that even experienced developers needed weeks to make simple changes to the checkout or product display. The core issue, however, was browser overhead. The Luma theme forced the customer's browser to download, parse and execute hundreds of small JavaScript files before the page became interactive. In a world moving toward "mobile first," this was disastrous. Google punished this sluggishness mercilessly through the Core Web Vitals (LCP, FID, CLS).
