Do you manage articles, stock and orders in SelectLine and want to connect a Magento shop? We develop Magento SelectLine project by project, according to your processes and with a log that makes every error visible.
SelectLine is a merchandise management and business software for small and mid-sized businesses that bundles trade, warehouse, purchasing, sales and accounting in one system. Whoever uses SelectLine in the background and runs or wants to build a Magento shop in the foreground does not want to keep orders and stock twice. This page describes how we implement Magento SelectLine, how it works technically and where the pitfalls lie.
An overview of the ways (API, middleware, file exchange, ready-made module) is given by the guide to ERP integration. Which type of system is meant for what is explained by the guide merchandise management, ERP and PIM. For larger ERP systems read the page on Business Central or on SAP integration, for the other systems the overview of connectors. The guide connect SelectLine to Magento covers local operation and interfaces.
SelectLine is an ERP system in which article master, stock, customers, quotes and orders lie and from which deliveries, invoices and accounting are controlled. A shop is connected as a sales channel and reports orders to the system.
For Magento SelectLine that means: the shop becomes a sales channel of the ERP. Articles, prices and stock come from SelectLine into the shop, orders and new customers go from the shop into SelectLine, and delivery and invoice status come back. The advantage is obvious: your employees keep working in the familiar environment and do not have to enter orders anew.
Many businesses with SelectLine sell to business customers with individual prices, framework agreements and payment terms. That influences the integration: these rules should not get lost in the shop, and the shop should not promise anything the ERP cannot keep. We clarify in the inventory which rules the shop maps and which stay in the ERP.
Since SelectLine is set up very differently depending on the business, the implementation depends on version, operation and customizations. We clarify exactly such peculiarities before we promise anything.
Which data flows in Magento SelectLine you define with us in the inventory. Typically there are five areas.
Released articles with attributes and prices go from SelectLine into the shop. We take over customer-specific prices as far as Magento can map them through customer groups and tier prices.
The stock comes from SelectLine and is shown in the shop. With several warehouses we decide with you which warehouses form the salable stock in the shop.
Every order is created as a sales order in SelectLine, with items, shipping method, payment method and addresses. An order is transferred only once, even if the connection is interrupted.
New customers are created in SelectLine and assigned unambiguously. We avoid duplicate customers through clear rules for the comparison.
Tracking numbers, delivery status and invoices go back into the shop so that customers see in the account where their order stands.
Not every Magento SelectLine project needs all five areas. Often it begins with orders and stock and later grows by article maintenance and documents. This way you see results quickly and can use the budget in stages.
The table shows a typical pattern. In your business it may differ, and that is exactly what we clarify in the inventory.
| Data | Leading system | Direction | Typical rhythm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Article master and variants | SelectLine | SelectLine to shop | regularly or on change |
| Prices and terms | SelectLine | SelectLine to shop | regularly or on change |
| Stock | SelectLine | SelectLine to shop | often, depending on need |
| Orders | Shop | Shop to SelectLine | immediately or at short intervals |
| New customers | depending on concept | Shop to SelectLine | on creation |
| Delivery status and invoices | SelectLine | SelectLine to shop | on status change |
With Magento SelectLine a clear rule on data ownership prevents most disputes. Whatever can be changed in both systems leads to contradictions sooner or later. That is why we define exactly one leading system per type of data and describe the rule for the conflict case. Especially with variants, units and tax rates an assignment table that the department and the developers review together is worthwhile.
For Magento SelectLine an honest note applies: in our research we found no publicly accessible documentation of a programming interface of SelectLine. There are interfaces from third-party vendors for other shop systems that transfer orders, articles and customers, and a forum post describes SelectLine as locally operated software. Which interfaces are available in your version, whether a REST interface is among them and what your contract allows we therefore clarify before the quote together with you and, where necessary, with the vendor or your SelectLine partner.
Three ways are typical: a programming interface if your version provides one, a file exchange with fixed formats, for example CSV or XML in an agreed directory, or a middleware that mediates between both systems. Every way has advantages and disadvantages in timeliness, error handling and care. A file exchange is robust and simple but not in real time.
For Magento SelectLine the same holds as for every integration: the interface is only half of the work. The other half are your rules, for example when an order is confirmed, how discounts and shipping costs land as items in the ERP and which tax codes belong to which article. We keep these assignments in the admin as settings so that they can be changed without development.
We avoid direct access to the database wherever possible. It bypasses the rules of the ERP and can break on updates. If an official way is missing, we first look with you and your partner for an approved solution before we build a makeshift.
For the connection of SelectLine and shop systems, third-party vendors offer interfaces, for Magento we found none in our research. Whether a third-party product for Magento exists or can be adapted we check before a decision. Whether a platform fits your process we check honestly before a decision, also with regard to running fees. If an existing product covers your requirements, it is often the more economical choice, and we will tell you so.
An individual development for Magento SelectLine pays off if your processes deviate from the standard: customer-specific prices, framework agreements, several warehouses or processes that a ready-made product does not know. It is more expensive at the start but fits exactly. Include the care as well: a ready-made product saves development time but causes license and update costs, and an individual development needs someone who looks after it.
A middleware pays off if more than two systems are connected, for example shop, ERP, marketplace connection and shipping provider. The decision aid is in the guide to ERP integration.
On the Magento side we build the integration as its own module according to the standards of the system, without interventions in the core. The module uses the interfaces and queues of Magento so that transfers run in the background and the shop does not become slower for visitors. Orders are placed in a queue on arrival and processed there until the ERP has confirmed them.
Prices by customer group, tier prices and several warehouses are mapped by Magento with its own functions that the integration fills. Where possible we use these standard functions instead of inventing our own tables. That keeps the shop update-capable and lets other developers join in later.
In the admin you see what was transferred: a log shows date, record and result, with a filter for errors. For the peculiarities of SelectLine we add settings in the admin, for example assignments of payment methods, shipping methods and tax classes, so that changes need no development.
With SelectLine the operation is often local at the customer. Whoever runs the software on own machines needs a secure way from the shop to the internal system for an integration. Magento SelectLine therefore clarifies early where SelectLine runs and how it may be reached.
We see these points again and again in projects. They can be planned if they are known early.
It is settled late which interface the own version offers, and the concept has to be rethought.
Prices and framework agreements from the ERP cannot be translated one to one into customer groups and tier prices.
Prices or texts are changed in both systems and overwrite each other.
A failed transfer is noticed only after days because nobody looks at the log.
After a version change the integration no longer works because it was not tested.
Partial deliveries, returns, credit notes and foreign orders are missing in the concept.
An integration for Magento SelectLine should also withstand short outages of the system: transfers are buffered and caught up later instead of being lost. That increases reliability in daily work considerably and is standard with us.
Send us briefly your version of SelectLine, the operation and the desired data flows. We reply within 24 hours and tell you honestly whether and how we can help.
Send inquiryAn integration connects two systems with business data, so clear rules apply. The exchange runs encrypted, credentials do not lie in the source code but in the protected configuration, and the integration receives only the rights it needs. Access belongs to a separate service account, never to a private account of a person.
When testing we work with test data or anonymized data as far as possible. As soon as developers get access to personal data, for example customer accounts or orders from SelectLine, an agreement on commissioned data processing is needed. We clarify that before the start so that you are legally well set up.
The log of the integration contains what is necessary for operation but no credentials and no unnecessary personal data. Retention periods are defined with you. These notes are not legal advice, the concrete arrangement depends on your company.
We keep the start deliberately short so that you quickly know whether and how the integration is feasible.
We clarify version, operation, access and contacts at SelectLine, the desired data flows and the special cases. The result is a short concept.
We work against a test system of SelectLine and a Magento development state, never first against live data.
The data flows are built one by one, with a log, repetition on errors and clear rules for conflicts.
You check with real examples, then we start step by step and look at the log together in the first weeks.
Also with Magento SelectLine you stay informed between the steps: you receive a short status of what is done, what comes next and where we need your decision. We record decisions in writing so that it stays traceable later why something was built this way.
The following constellations are examples from the practice of Magento SelectLine projects, not statements about particular customers. The first is a small merchant who runs SelectLine on a machine in the office and builds a shop. The challenge lies in connecting the shop securely to the internal system without opening it to the network unnecessarily.
The second constellation is a merchant with a large range and several warehouses. The challenge lies in the salable stock and in how quickly the shop sees changes. We define early which rhythm is enough and which buffers against overselling make sense.
The third constellation is a business that switches from another shop system to Magento and keeps SelectLine. Here the existing connection is the benchmark: what it achieves today the new shop should at least achieve. How the switch itself runs is described on our page on migration.
An interface is not a one-off project but ongoing operation. After the start a log monitors every transfer: what was transferred when, what failed, what is repeated? Errors that cannot be fixed automatically are reported visibly so that nobody learns of them only through a customer complaint.
Updates change the situation. A Magento update, a new state at SelectLine or a change of the vendor interface can affect the integration. Therefore the planning includes an agreement on how updates are tested and who approves them. Ongoing care can be regulated through a maintenance contract that covers monitoring, updates and error fixing.
Documentation is part of the delivery. You receive a description of the data flows, the assignments and the rules for special cases so that your team or another provider understands the integration and can continue it. Source code and access stay with you.
A flat figure for Magento SelectLine would be unreliable because the effort depends on your constellation. It is determined by the number of data flows, the quality of the data in SelectLine, the number of special cases with prices, warehouses and customers and the required timeliness. A data flow in one direction is built much faster than a synchronization in both directions with conflict rules.
We work with an open hourly rate of 30 euros net, without emergency surcharge. After the inventory you receive a written estimate that lists the data flows individually so that you can control scope and order yourself. For clearly defined packages a fixed price is also possible. All prices are on the page pricing.
Besides the development, include the running items: hosting, maintenance and, where applicable, licenses or fees for SelectLine and for additional services. We show these items separately in the estimate so that you can compare quotes over several years.
An honest offer includes naming the limits. We do not sell a ready-made connector off the shelf but develop Magento SelectLine project by project according to your processes. That means: we implement exactly what you need, but not in a day and not for a flat price that cannot be calculated beforehand.
We are a web agency in which fixed freelancers work together, all from home offices. We are not a large agency with a hundred employees and cannot take on every project at every time. We tell you early whether and when we have capacity. We name customers only with their consent, and in the first conversation we gladly talk about comparable constellations.
We give no legal advice. Questions about commissioned data processing, data protection and the license terms of SelectLine you clarify with your legal adviser and the vendor. What is technically possible depends on version, operation and license of your system and is checked in the inventory.
With a clean Magento SelectLine integration you maintain articles, stock and orders in one place only. You do not have to decide anything today: a first conversation clarifies what is feasible and costs nothing.
Request the integrationIn our research we found no public documentation. Which interfaces your version offers we clarify before the quote with you and the vendor or partner.
Yes. The shop becomes a sales channel of the ERP, your employees keep working in the familiar environment.
We did not find one in our research. There are interfaces from third-party vendors for other shop systems that we check for you.
Often yes, if orders at short intervals and regular stock are sufficient. For real time you need a programming interface or a middleware.
No. We develop the integration project by project according to your processes. That means a better fit but also an estimate instead of a list price.
That depends on data flows, special cases and the quality of the data in SelectLine. We estimate in writing after an inventory, the hourly rate is 30 euros net.
That can be regulated by a maintenance contract. Without care an interface can fail on updates. More on the page on maintenance packages.
We need access to a test system of SelectLine and to the interfaces. You define the permissions with your IT department, and we touch productive data only after approval.
With a short message through the contact form. Please name your system, the version and the desired data flows. We reply within 24 hours on working days.
