Magento knows many price types but no convenient maintenance for larger assortments. We extend the admin with price lists, import, history and margin logic, project by project and according to your pricing policy.
Prices are rarely a single value. There are list prices, tier prices, prices per customer group, special prices, promotions and individual conditions of single customers. Magento can map many of these types, but maintaining them in the admin becomes laborious with larger assortments, and a change history is missing.
This page shows what Magento can do for prices in the standard, what we add and how we keep prices traceable. It belongs to our offer Magento as ERP. Closely related are customer management, quotes and the integration of prices from a PIM or ERP, see the page on the Magento connector.
A price management answers three questions: which price does which customer pay for which product in which quantity, who changed this price when and how high is the margin? Extending Magento price management means making these questions reliably answerable in the admin and shaping the maintenance so that it stays manageable with thousands of products.
Typical requirements are price lists per customer or customer group that can be imported and exported as a file, tier prices that apply to whole product groups, price changes with a validity period, a history that shows who changed what when, and a calculation from purchase price and desired margin.
For B2B businesses customer-specific prices are central. A merchant has ten customers with ten different conditions, and these should be the same in the shop, in the quote and in the invoice. Magento price management ensures there is only one source.
Magento price management is no costing software for production or crafts. It manages sales prices and their derivation from purchasing and margin, and we say openly if your costing goes beyond that.
Magento offers a broad range of price types. We first check how much of it is enough for you.
One price per product, optionally a special price with a period.
Prices by quantity, also per customer group, maintained directly on the product.
Different prices for different groups, for example consumers and resellers.
Rules that adjust prices for product selections and groups automatically.
Discounts and promotions that apply in the cart, with or without a coupon code.
Prices can apply globally or per website depending on configuration.
Own customer catalogs with customer-specific prices belong to the B2B functions of Adobe Commerce and are tied to the edition. In the open source version we map such prices through groups or an extension. We record this in the inventory.
Which building blocks make sense depends on your pricing policy. Typical are these.
Own prices for single customers, maintainable in a list and importable as a file.
Read prices in and out as a table, with a check before adoption and a log.
Who changed which price when, with old and new value.
Prices with start and end date that switch on and off automatically.
Calculate and check the sales price from purchase price and markup or target margin.
Change prices for groups of products by percent or amount, with preview.
The table shows what exists in the standard and what we typically add.
| Area | In the standard | With extension |
|---|---|---|
| Customer prices | Groups, tiers, rules | Price lists per customer |
| Maintaining many prices | Product by product, import by file | List, bulk change, preview |
| History | Not available | Changes with author and time |
| Validity | Special price with period | Prices with start and end |
| Margin | Not available | Calculation from purchasing and markup |
| Check | Little | Preview and log before adoption |
Depending on version and installed extensions the standard can differ. We check that in advance.
Price errors are expensive. A comma in the wrong place, and a product is in the shop for a fraction. Therefore Magento price management includes a process with safeguards: changes are first shown in a preview, with old and new price and the deviation in percent. Conspicuously large jumps are marked.
On request there is an approval. An employee prepares the change, a second person approves it. This way errors can be caught before they go live. Every adopted change is logged, with file, author, time and number of items.
The history helps with queries. If a customer says he paid less last month, you can look up which price applied when. If needed, an earlier state can be restored.
Prices stay coupled to customers, quotes and invoices: what applies in the shop is in the quote, and what is in the quote is in the invoice.
Especially for B2B customers an own view per customer pays off. The employee opens the customer file and sees all prices that apply for this customer, with origin: group price, tier, customer list or promotion. This way it can be explained on the phone immediately why a price is as it is, and a deviation is not understood only after a long search.
Promotions belong to it too. A price promotion is created with start and end, for selected products or groups, and switches itself off again. Magento price management shows which promotions are running at the moment and which products are affected so that no promotion stays permanently by accident.
Whoever keeps prices for several countries or currencies also defines whether prices apply per website and how conversion is done. We make this decision before building as well because it affects import, display and invoice. This keeps Magento price management clear even when the business grows.
The standard is enough if you have few price types, the assortment is manageable and prices rarely change. Then group prices, tiers and occasional import are sufficient.
An extension pays off if you keep customer-specific prices, change prices frequently, need a history or derive sales prices from purchasing. Then it saves maintenance effort and prevents errors.
If prices are managed in the ERP or PIM anyway, the integration is the better way. See the pages on Akeneo, JTL-Wawi and Business Central.
We build extensions as own modules according to the standards of Magento, without interventions in the core. Lists in the admin arise as overviews with filters, sorting and export, forms for editing as forms with checks, and you define settings yourself in the admin without every change needing a development. That keeps the shop update-capable and lets other developers join in later.
Every function gets permissions. In the admin roles can be created with exactly the rights a task needs so that, for example, sales may edit quotes but not change prices. In addition it can be recorded who changed what and when if your process demands it.
In doing so we use what Magento already can instead of rebuilding it: orders, invoices, customer accounts, price rules and inventory management belong to the standard and remain the basis. Our extensions build on it and supplement what your process additionally needs.
With Magento price management we pay attention to calculation paths. Net and gross, tax, rounding and currency are defined before anything is built because small differences add up to discrepancies with many items. Magento price management uses the same rules the shop applies.
Where prices come from an ERP or PIM, we define which system leads. Two sources for the same price lead sooner or later to dispute, so there is a leading source and a clear direction of transfer.
Describe which price types you use and how you maintain them today. We reply within 24 hours with a first assessment.
Send inquiryWe often see these points with prices.
Prices are maintained in the shop and the ERP and deviate.
Import files contain gross prices where net prices are expected.
Catalog and cart rules overlap, and the price becomes unexpectedly low.
Errors are noticed only when customers order.
Nobody knows who changed a price when.
Changed prices appear with delay because indexes are not updated.
A leading price source, preview before adoption and a look at indexing and cache after the change solve most problems. Before the start we test all price types that you use.
We keep the start deliberately short so that you quickly see whether and how your process can be mapped in the admin.
We record how you work today: who processes what, which lists and tables exist besides the shop and what is to be replaced in the admin.
We sketch the extension in the admin, show you forms and lists and clarify rights and special cases before anything is built.
The functions arise as modules according to Magento standards, one by one and with a log, without interventions in the core.
You work with test data and real examples, then we start step by step and accompany the first weeks.
With Magento price management we begin with import, preview and history because they reduce the risk most. Customer price lists, validity and margin follow in stages and are tested with real price lists.
The following examples are constellations from practice, not statements about particular customers. In the first case a wholesaler keeps customer prices in Excel files and sends them by email. With price lists per customer in the admin the customer sees his prices in the shop, and the files are no longer needed.
In the second case a merchant changes all prices twice a year by a percentage. With bulk change, preview and approval this takes minutes, and outliers stand out before the start.
In the third case a manufacturer wants to derive sales prices from the purchase price and a target margin. Magento price management calculates the prices, shows deviations and adopts them after approval.
Whoever wants to introduce Magento price management asks about the effort first. We estimate Magento price management after an inventory, at 30 euros net per hour, and you see beforehand which part brings the greatest benefit. Magento price management can be built in stages, and Magento price management is also possible for B2B businesses. Whether Magento price management in the admin or an external system fits better is decided in the end by your process, not by our preference.
After the start we accompany the first weeks and check samples in the shop, in the quote and in the invoice so that prices match everywhere.
In the admin several people work with business data, so clear rules apply. Every person gets a role with exactly the rights they need, access belongs to personal accounts, and the login to the admin can be secured with a second step. Credentials do not lie in the source code but in the protected configuration.
When testing we work with test data or anonymized data as far as possible. As soon as developers get access to personal data, for example customer accounts or orders, an agreement on commissioned data processing is needed. We clarify that before the start so that you are legally well set up. These notes are not legal advice, the concrete arrangement depends on your company.
An extension in the admin is not a one-off project but belongs to ongoing operation. Magento updates, new requirements and changed processes demand care. Therefore the planning includes an agreement on how updates are tested and who approves them. Ongoing care can be regulated through a maintenance contract that covers updates, monitoring and error fixing.
Documentation is part of the delivery. You receive a description of the functions, the roles and the settings so that your team or another provider understands the extension and can continue it. Source code and access stay with you, and backups belong to every operation.
A flat figure for Magento price management would be unreliable because the effort depends on your processes. It is determined by the number of functions, the number of special cases, the roles and rights and the reports you need. Much of it already exists as a building block for customers that we adapt to your processes, and that lowers the effort compared with a new development.
We work with an open hourly rate of 30 euros net, without emergency surcharge. After the inventory you receive a written estimate that lists the functions individually so that you can control scope and order yourself. All prices are on the page pricing.
Besides the development, include the running items: hosting, maintenance and, where applicable, licenses. We show these items separately in the estimate so that you can compare the solution with an external ERP over several years, including its licenses and the connection.
An honest offer includes naming the limits. We do not sell a ready-made ERP made of Magento but extend the admin according to your processes. For the areas named here there are extensions that we have already implemented for customers and adapt to your processes on request. They are not off-the-shelf products with a list price but building blocks that we tailor with you.
Magento does not replace a full ERP with financial accounting, payroll or production. We tell you openly when an external system makes more sense, and then connect it, see the page on the Magento connector. We name customers only with their consent, and in the first conversation we gladly talk about comparable constellations.
For invoices and other documents tax requirements apply, for example for numbers and immutability. We give no legal advice but implement the rules agreed with your tax adviser technically. We are a web agency in which fixed freelancers work together, all from home offices, and tell you early whether and when we have capacity.
With extended Magento price management you maintain prices safely and traceably. A first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
Request the admin extensionYes. With groups and tiers in the standard, with price lists per customer through our extension. Own customer catalogs belong to Adobe Commerce B2B.
Yes, with a check before adoption and a log so that errors do not go live.
With the extension yes: who, when, old and new price.
Then there is a leading source, and the prices come into the shop through an integration. The pages on the Magento connector describe that.
No. For small companies with simple processes Magento is often enough, a full ERP with financial accounting, payroll or production it does not replace. We tell you openly when an external system makes more sense.
No. We have building blocks from customer projects that we adapt to your processes on request, and we do not sell packages with a list price.
That depends on functions, special cases and roles. We estimate in writing after an inventory, the hourly rate is 30 euros net.
That can be regulated by a maintenance contract. Without care extensions can fail on Magento updates.
With a short message through the contact form. Describe how you work today and what is to become better in the admin. We reply within 24 hours on working days.
