1. The Business Case for Accessible Online Stores

   May 3, 2025

Accessible online stores open up a meaningful customer segment with real purchasing power, improve SEO and performance through clean semantic markup, reduce legal exposure under Germany's accessibility law, and strengthen brand reputation. Framing accessibility as an investment rather than a compliance chore convinces stakeholders who only respond to metrics and return on investment, backed by solid economic arguments.

2. Implementing Skip Links Correctly

   Apr 20, 2025

Without a skip link, keyboard users and screen reader users must tab through the entire navigation on every single page load before reaching the actual content. A correctly implemented skip link, hidden until focused, with a real jump target and a working tabindex, solves this problem reliably and makes every page immediately usable.

3. prefers-reduced-motion: Making Animations Accessible

   Apr 17, 2025

Parallax scrolling, large zoom transitions, and autoplaying background videos feel modern to many users, but they can trigger genuine nausea, dizziness, and migraines in people with vestibular disorders. The prefers-reduced-motion media query reliably detects this preference in both CSS and JavaScript, enabling a reduced, still functional animation instead of an abrupt interface with no feedback at all.

4. Responsive Text and Zoom Support up to 200 Percent

   Apr 4, 2025

When users increase the browser font size to 200 percent, a store must remain fully readable and usable, without content being cut off or requiring sideways scrolling. This article shows in practical terms how rem-based units, reflowing layouts, an unlocked viewport and targeted zoom tests make that reliable in Magento and Hyva stores, without costly special-case fixes.

5. Optimizing the Magento Checkout for Accessibility

   Feb 18, 2025

An accessible checkout in Magento and Hyva guides screen reader users, keyboard only users and voice control users safely through shipping, payment and order review. This article shows in practical terms how a central error summary, keyboard operable payment methods, clean focus management and announced status messages prevent lost sales, build trust and bring the entire checkout flow reliably up to WCAG 2.2 level.

6. Landmark Roles and HTML5 Elements for Navigation

   Feb 11, 2025

Screen reader users do not orient themselves by scrolling, but by jumping deliberately between landmarks like header, nav, main, aside and footer. Using these HTML5 elements correctly and sparingly gives blind and low vision visitors a fast overview of every page and direct access to content, while excessive or unlabeled landmarks do the opposite and make navigation noticeably harder.

7. Focus Management in Dynamic Interfaces and SPAs

   Feb 3, 2025

On a classic page load, the browser reliably resets focus to the top of the document. With client-side routing and dynamically toggled modals, that does not happen on its own. Fail to explicitly move focus after navigation and when opening or closing dialogs, and your single page application becomes effectively unusable for keyboard and screen reader users.

8. Embedding Accessibility in the Design Process

   Feb 1, 2025

A contrast error in a mockup can be fixed with a single click, the same error after launch costs person-days. This article shows how to check contrast, focus order, and touch target sizes during design, how accessibility acceptance criteria belong in the design handoff, and why designers share responsibility from the start.

9. Continuously Improving Accessibility Instead of a One-Time Project

   Jan 23, 2025

A one-time accessibility audit closes a list of tickets, but not the gap that reopens with every new feature. This article shows how automated CI checks, recurring manual audits, and a real feedback channel work together so accessibility stays a lasting process, and accessibility debt is tracked openly instead of being marked as done and forgotten.

10. Making Product Images and Galleries Accessible

    Jan 22, 2025

Product galleries with multiple images, a zoom feature, and carousel navigation are among the most complex building blocks of a product page. Adding alt text alone while forgetting keyboard operation, focus management, and screen reader announcements results in a gallery that stays unusable for many groups of users. This article shows a complete, field tested pattern for accessible product galleries in Magento and Hyva.
