1. Embedding Accessibility in Code Review

   May 6, 2026

Accessibility bugs found in a pull request cost minutes. Found later in an accessibility audit, they cost days. A fixed checklist for semantic elements, form labels, keyboard operability and focus management in code review prevents exactly this expensive rework and makes accessibility a permanent part of every merge, without noticeably slowing down review speed.

2. Marking Up Lists and Tables Accessibly

   Apr 28, 2026

Treating lists as stacked div elements and tables as a pure layout tool makes content unusable for screen reader users. Using ul, ol, dl for genuine enumerations and th with scope plus caption for genuine tabular data makes relationships between content programmatically detectable, navigable, and WCAG compliant, without sacrificing visual design.

3. Accessibility: Why It Affects More Users Than You Think

   Apr 27, 2026

Accessibility is often treated as a niche topic for a small group of screen reader users, yet it affects nearly everyone: a broken wrist, glaring sunlight on a display, one-handed use on a bus, or fading eyesight with age. Building accessibly means building more robust, faster interfaces for every user of a Magento store, not just a minority.

4. European Accessibility Act and BFSG: Legal Basics for Online Stores

   Apr 26, 2026

Since June 2025, the German Accessibility Strengthening Act, based on the European Accessibility Act, has obligated numerous online stores to provide digital accessibility. 5. Hyvä Theme Accessibility: Fundamentals and Common Gaps

   Apr 25, 2026

Hyvä Theme's lean, semantic HTML foundation gives it noticeably better accessibility out of the box than classic Luma themes, but that doesn't close every gap automatically. Teams that ship Alpine.js toggles without focus management or icon buttons without accessible names still produce real WCAG violations. This article covers the strengths, the most common mistakes, and a practical checklist for your first Hyvä accessibility audit.

6. Accessible Videos: Captions and Transcripts

   Apr 20, 2026

Product videos without captions exclude deaf and hard-of-hearing users, while missing audio description withholds key visual information from blind users. This article shows how developers add WebVTT captions, the HTML track element, and searchable transcripts to Magento and Hyva stores, including a real production workflow.

7. Label vs. Placeholder: Why Placeholders Are Not a Substitute

   Mar 18, 2026

A placeholder is a fleeting hint, not a persistent label. It disappears as soon as someone starts typing, is not reliably announced as a field label by many screen readers, and is often hard to read because of its usually faint contrast. This article shows how labels and placeholders correctly work together and where exactly the line falls.

8. aria-labelledby vs. aria-describedby: Differences and Usage

   Mar 16, 2026

Mixing up aria-labelledby and aria-describedby causes screen readers to announce buttons without a name or swallow error messages entirely. This article explains the difference between the accessible name and the accessible description, walks through the WAI-ARIA name computation, shows how to reference multiple ids, and covers the most common mix-ups using real form and dialog examples.

9. Designing Visible Focus Indicators Instead of outline:none

   Mar 7, 2026

Using outline:none without a replacement makes it practically impossible for keyboard users to operate a page, because it stays invisible which element is currently active. With :focus-visible, high-contrast focus rings and clear WCAG criteria, this common mistake can be fixed precisely, without sacrificing visual calm for mouse users.

10. Implementing Accessible Date Pickers and Comboboxes

    Feb 27, 2026

Date pickers and comboboxes are among the most demanding interface patterns on the web because they constantly switch between a closed input field, an open suggestion list and an actively highlighted option. Implementing the WAI-ARIA combobox pattern precisely, testing keyboard and screen reader together, and offering an independent text-input fallback makes date selection and autocomplete reliably usable for every user group, even without a mouse.
