Magento 2 Save for Later: park items instead of losing them
With Magento 2 Save for Later from Mironsoft, customers move single items out of the cart into a list right below it with one click. The cart becomes tidy, the selection is kept, and the checkout shows only what is to be ordered now. Logged-in customers also find the list in the customer account, guests keep it in the browser. The module is built with Alpine.js on the Hyvä theme, needs no jQuery and no Knockout, and can be switched on and off per store view.
Park a single item
The Save for Later link sits on every cart row and moves exactly that item, not the whole cart.
List below the cart
Saved items appear below the cart with image, name, options and current price.
Back with one click
One click on Move to Cart brings the item back with its original quantity and selection.
Account list
Logged-in customers see all saved items in the account and on every device they are signed in on.
Price and stock notice
If the price has changed since saving or the item is running low, the list shows a notice.
Guests and sign-in
Guests use the list via cookie; after sign-in the items are merged with the account.
Why customers want to save items for later in the Magento 2 cart
For many customers a cart is shopping list, comparison and budget plan at once. Whoever checks four products and wants to buy only two now has only poor options: order everything, delete items and search laboriously later, or abandon the purchase. Merchants therefore search for Magento 2 save for later, Magento 2 move to wishlist from cart or Magento 2 cart item save. By default only the wishlist remains, which is a separate step and does not reliably preserve options, quantities and cart context.
With Magento 2 Save for Later everything stays in place: the item moves one row down, keeps quantity and selection and comes back exactly the same when the customer wants it. That lowers abandonment and makes return visits easier, without the customer having to create an account.
Magento 2 Save for Later right on the cart row
On every cart row the Save for Later link appears next to Remove. One click moves the item into the saved list without a page reload, and the totals update at once. Configurable products, custom options, bundles and quantities are stored completely. If it is the last item, the cart shows the saved list instead, with a friendly note that the cart is empty.
- Link on every row, moving without a reload
- Options, bundles and quantities are kept
- Note for an empty cart with a filled saved list
The Magento 2 Save for Later list in the cart with price and stock notice
Below the cart the list shows all saved items with image, name, selection and current price. If a product has become cheaper in the meantime, a notice with the difference appears; if it is no longer deliverable, the stock status is shown there. Discontinued products also stay visible so customers do not lose something without explanation, and can be removed with one click. In the settings you define the maximum number of saved items.
- Current price with a notice on change
- Stock status and not-available notice
- Upper limit for saved items configurable
Magento 2 Save for Later in the customer account and for guests
Logged-in customers find their list in the account overview and on all devices. Guests keep it in a cookie for the number of days you set. When a guest signs in, the module merges the items with those in the account and removes duplicates. The saved list contains only product, selection and quantity, no address or payment data. The cookie consent depends on your classification; the legal review lies with the shop operator.
- Account list on all devices
- Guests via cookie with configurable duration
- Merging on sign-in without duplicates
Settings and administration of Magento 2 Save for Later for your team
In the admin you set retention period, maximum items, display in the cart and in the account, and the texts per store view. An overview shows how many items are currently saved and which products are parked particularly often. That is a useful hint for price promotions or stock planning. A cron job cleans up expired lists, and single entries can be removed in the admin.
- Duration, limit and texts per store view
- Overview of frequently saved products
- Cron cleanup of expired lists

Differentiation from wishlist, share cart and cart reminder
The wishlist is a separate place outside the cart, meant for gift ideas, for example. Share Cart passes whole carts on to third parties by link, and the abandoned cart reminder emails customers about carts left behind. Magento 2 Save for Later instead works at item level in the cart itself and helps the customer separate cleanly between now and later.
The module sends no reminder emails. If you also want to remind customers of saved items, that requires marketing consent which you review legally as the shop operator.
No download — personal setup instead
Save for Later is not listed here as a ready-made download file for self-installation. The purchase is a service commission: we get in touch after the purchase, install the module in your shop and agree on retention, texts and guest rules together with you.
