Magento 2 IBAN Validation: check bank accounts before money flows back
Mironsoft IBAN Validator adds Magento 2 IBAN validation to every form where customers enter a bank account. Each IBAN is checked for its checksum and country format before it is saved. Whether it is a refund by bank transfer, a SEPA direct debit mandate or a bank field in the return form, typing mistakes show up immediately instead of on the failed transfer days later. Magento 2 IBAN validation runs in the browser with Alpine.js and again on the server, so even manipulated requests cannot store an invalid IBAN. Everything is configured per store view in the admin.
Checksum
The check digits of the IBAN are calculated with the standard method, so swapped or missing digits are caught.
Country format
Length and structure per country are verified, for example 22 characters in Germany, without any rules for you to maintain.
Input clean-up
Spaces and lowercase letters are cleaned, the IBAN is displayed in groups of four and stored in one notation.
Refunds
The bank field in the return form and in the customer account is checked before a credit is triggered.
Server-side safety
The check runs in the browser and once more on the server; invalid values are never stored.
Masked display
In the admin and in emails the IBAN can be partly masked, shown in full only to authorised roles.
Why Magento 2 IBAN validation saves time and money
One wrong digit is enough and the refund bounces or lands with the wrong recipient. The bank often reports the problem days later, the customer asks, your team hunts for the cause. Out of the box Magento has no IBAN field and therefore no check. Merchants search for Magento 2 IBAN validation, Magento 2 validate IBAN or Magento 2 SEPA field.
With Magento 2 IBAN validation the mistake is stopped where it happens: while typing. The checksum catches most transposed digits, the country format catches a wrong length. It does not replace a query at the bank, but it is a reliable first hurdle without any external service.
Magento 2 IBAN validation with checksum and country format
Every IBAN carries two check digits from which you can calculate whether the remaining characters are consistent. Magento 2 IBAN validation runs this calculation and compares length and structure with the pattern of the country code. All IBAN countries are supported; the patterns ship with the module and are updated when the standards change. Whether the bank or the account actually exists is not checked.
- Check digits calculated with the standard method
- Length and structure verified per country code
- No query to external services
Clean, group and store the IBAN consistently
Customers copy IBANs from online banking with spaces, type them in lowercase or add hyphens. The module removes disturbing characters, sets capital letters and displays the number in groups of four while typing. The stored value has no spaces. Pasting from the clipboard triggers the clean-up immediately, so customers never have to correct anything by hand.
- Removes spaces and hyphens
- Capital letters and groups of four in the display
- Clean-up also when pasting from the clipboard
Where IBAN checking applies: returns, account and admin
You switch Magento 2 IBAN validation on for the areas where your shop asks for bank details: the return form, a field in the customer account, an extra checkout field or the admin form for credit memos. The module provides a reusable input field that you place through the layout. An account holder field can be added alongside and made mandatory.
- Return form, customer account, checkout extra field
- Reusable input field via layout XML
- Optional mandatory account holder
Masking, permissions and data protection
Bank details are sensitive. By default the admin shows the IBAN partly masked, for example only the first four and the last two characters. Only roles with the matching permission see it in full, and every access can be logged. Emails only contain the masked form. You decide how long IBANs are kept; legal assessment for your shop stays with you.
- Partial masking in admin and emails
- Full view only with a dedicated ACL permission
- Retention period in days adjustable
Where Magento 2 IBAN validation helps in daily shop work
Situations where Magento 2 IBAN validation saves follow-up questions.
Refund by bank transfer
With prepayment or cash on delivery there is no payment path back. A checked IBAN prevents the credit from running into nowhere.
B2B returns
Business customers enter their bank details in the return form. The check makes sure your accounting receives a transfer that can be executed.
Direct debit mandates
If you collect SEPA mandates you need an IBAN without format errors before the mandate is signed and archived.
Reseller accounts
Suppliers and resellers store bank details in their account for commissions or credits.
Magento 2 IBAN validation: without and with the module
The difference to a free text field.
| Topic | Without the module | With Mironsoft IBAN Validator |
|---|---|---|
| Input | Free text field, any string possible | Checksum and country format are verified |
| Notation | Spaces, lowercase and hyphens mixed | Cleaned and grouped consistently |
| Error case | Noticed on the rejected transfer | Message while typing, before saving |
| Data protection | Plain text in admin and emails | Partly masked, full view by permission |
| Safety | Browser check only or none | Browser and server check independently |

Delimitation from payment methods and refund modules
This module only checks whether an entered IBAN is formally correct. It does not collect money, create transfers or connect a payment method. For payment methods, credit memos or return workflows you use the modules designed for that; Magento 2 IBAN validation only gives them a clean input.
The interface works with Alpine.js in the Hyvä theme, without jQuery and without an additional library. Data protection and retention questions you assess legally as the shop operator.
No download, but personal setup
IBAN Validator is not listed here as a ready-made download for self-installation. The purchase is a commission: after the order we get in touch, install the module in your shop and agree areas of use, masking and permissions together with you.
