Magento 2 currency format: show prices the way your customers expect them
With the Magento 2 currency format module from Mironsoft you decide how an amount looks in every store. You choose the symbol, put it before or after the number, add a space and define thousands and decimal separators. A live preview in the admin shows the result before you save. The format applies uniformly in the shop, in the cart, in emails and on documents. The display runs without an additional library.
Set the symbol
Euro sign, short code or custom text: you decide what appears next to the number, per currency and store view.
Choose the position
The symbol stands before or after the number, with or without a space, whatever suits your audience.
Separators
Thousands and decimal separators are freely selectable, for example dot and comma or space and dot.
ISO code instead of symbol
With several currencies sharing the same sign, the ISO code provides clarity.
Live preview
The admin immediately shows an example with your format and the amounts 1.5 and 1,234.56.
Why the Magento 2 currency format is more than cosmetics
A price is written differently in every country: 1.234,56 € in Germany, €1,234.56 in English-speaking regions, 1 234,56 € in France. Magento derives the format from the locale. If you want to deviate, for a Swiss store, a B2B presence with ISO code or a brand with its own style, you quickly hit limits. Shop owners therefore look for the Magento 2 currency format, for a way to change the Magento 2 currency symbol per store view, or for a way to put the symbol after the price.
A wrong format costs trust. Customers read 1,234 as one point two three four if they are used to dots as thousands separators. With the Magento 2 currency format you define per store what is understandable for your audience, and it stays the same at every point in the shop.
Magento 2 currency format: symbol and position per store view
Per currency and store view you store the symbol and its position. A store for Germany shows 19,90 €, a store for English-speaking regions shows €19.90 and a B2B store shows 19.90 EUR. Optionally the module inserts a non-breaking space so that number and symbol do not wrap onto two lines. The setting follows the inheritance of Magento: set a value at website level and deviate in the store view.
- Symbol and position per currency and store view
- Non-breaking space against line wrap
- Inheritance from default via website to store view
Thousands and decimal separators in the Magento 2 currency format
The separators decide whether an amount appears as 1.234,56 or 1,234.56. The module leaves the choice to you: dot, comma, space or apostrophe, as is customary in Switzerland. The separators apply to prices, totals and coupon amounts alike. The module does not control the number of decimal places; a separate Mironsoft module handles that. The calculation stays untouched, only the display changes.
- Dot, comma, space or apostrophe selectable
- Same separators for prices, totals and coupons
- Display only, no change to the calculation
The same Magento 2 currency format in shop, email and PDF
A format that applies only on the product page irritates in the order confirmation. The module therefore applies the rule wherever Magento formats amounts: product lists, product page, mini cart, cart, checkout, customer account, transactional emails and documents. Prices updated by JavaScript, for instance on variant selection, follow the format too. Which documents and extensions bring their own formatting we check during setup.
- Shop, cart, checkout and customer account
- Transactional emails and documents
- Dynamic prices on variant selection
Preview in the admin and a safe rollout
Before a format goes live you see a preview in the admin with sample amounts: a small amount, a thousands amount and a negative amount, as in credit memos. That way you spot errors early. If you want to try a format in one store first, activate it there and leave the other stores unchanged. Resetting to the default Magento format is possible at any time with one click.
- Preview with small, large and negative amount
- Test run in a single store
- Reset to the Magento default format
Where the Magento 2 currency format helps in daily shop work
Typical cases in which the default format does not fit.
Several countries, one shop
With the Magento 2 currency format a shop for Germany, Austria and Switzerland shows the format customary in each store, with a fitting thousands separator.
B2B with ISO code
Buyers in corporations prefer EUR or CHF before the amount. The ISO code is unambiguous even if several countries use the same sign.
Brand presence
A brand wants the euro sign after the number and without a space. The format follows the brand style and stays the same everywhere.
Readability of large amounts
Machines, plants and bulk orders have four-digit prices. A clean thousands separator makes them readable at a glance.

Scope: decimal places and exchange rates
The Magento 2 currency format controls the look of an amount: symbol, position, spacing and separators. How many decimal places appear and whether zeros are hidden is handled by another Mironsoft module for the price format. Exchange rates, currency conversion and rounding are not part of it either; they stay with Magento and your rate provider.
The module changes only the display and never the price. It needs no JavaScript framework and works in the Hyvä theme with the existing Alpine.js components.
No download, but personal setup
The Currency Formatter is not listed here as a finished download file for self-installation. The purchase is a commission: after the purchase we get in touch, install the module in your shop and agree formats and output points with you.
