Magento 2 Spending Limits: budgets for employees that the shop monitors itself
With Magento 2 spending limits from Mironsoft, company customers decide how much an account may order within a period. As long as an order fits the budget it runs through as usual. If it exceeds the limit it switches to the status Awaiting approval, and a named approver decides. In the cart the buyer sees how much budget is left. The interface runs on Alpine.js in the Hyvä theme without an extra library.
Limit per account
One budget for a customer, a sub account or a whole customer group, as a euro amount with a period.
Periods
Magento 2 spending limits run per day, week, month, quarter or year; at the start of a period the budget restarts automatically.
Limit per order
In addition a maximum can be set for each single order, independent of the period budget.
Approval on overrun
With Magento 2 spending limits only orders above the budget go to the approver, everything else runs without delay.
Remaining budget visible
In the account and in the cart a bar shows what is still available in the current period.
Booked fairly
Cancellations and refunds release budget again, while pending approvals do not reserve it.
Why companies want Magento 2 spending limits for their employees
Whoever lets employees order in the shop quickly loses track of spending. Too many approvals slow down daily business, too few let the budget burst. Merchants therefore search for Magento 2 spending limits, an order limit per customer or a budget per employee. By default there is no ceiling: anyone logged in orders without limit.
With Magento 2 spending limits a clear rule applies: within the budget everyone orders freely, above it a responsible person decides. That relieves approvers because they only see exceptions, and it gives the company planning security.
Set Magento 2 spending limits by account and period
In the admin or in the company customer account you set budgets: per account, per sub account or per customer group, with an amount and a period. You choose whether net or gross amounts count and whether shipping costs are included. A single-order ceiling can apply in addition. At the start of a new period the budget restarts without manual work; unused budget expires or is carried over, depending on the setting.
- Amount per account, sub account or group
- Period from day to year, with optional carry-over
- Net or gross, with or without shipping
Send orders above the limit to approval
If an order no longer fits the budget, the buyer can still submit it. It receives the status Awaiting approval, no payment is started and the approver receives an email with the items. They approve or reject with a reason through a link or in the account. When approved, the order continues normally; when rejected it is cancelled and the buyer is informed. If a decision is missing, the module sends a reminder after a period you choose.
- Status Awaiting approval without payment
- Approve or reject by link or in the account
- Reminder and expiry time configurable
Show the remaining budget in the cart and account
The buyer sees a bar with used and remaining budget in the account and in the cart. If the cart exceeds the limit, a notice appears before submitting that the order goes to approval, instead of a surprise after ordering. The bar is drawn with Alpine.js and Tailwind. You maintain the texts per store view.
- Bar with usage and remainder
- Notice before submitting on overrun
- Texts per store view
Booking, cancellations and manual adjustment in the admin
The module books spending as soon as an order reaches the status you chose, for example paid or shipped. Cancellations and credit memos release the amount again. In the admin you see limit, usage and pending approvals per account. You can raise a budget once, reset a period or exclude an account from the check. Every change is logged with user and date.
- Booking at a chosen order status
- Cancellations and credit memos release budget
- One-off raise, reset, exclusions

Scope of Magento 2 spending limits compared with approval rules and sub accounts
The approval rules from Mironsoft work with conditions such as cart value, product or category and ask for every matching order. Magento 2 spending limits instead keep a budget per account and period, book continuously and ask only on overrun. The sub accounts supply the employee structure on which limits can build.
The modules can be combined, for example a budget per sub account plus a rule for certain categories. Internal budget rules of the company remain the customer concern; the module only maps them.
