Magento 2 Social Proof Counter: real numbers instead of claims
With the Mironsoft Magento 2 Social Proof Counter you show on product and category pages how many visitors are looking at an item right now and how often it was bought within a time window. The numbers come from your own store, are aggregated anonymously and only appear above minimum values you define. The display runs on Alpine.js in the Hyvä theme and needs no extra library. A Magento 2 Social Proof Counter can be switched on or off per store view and per category.
Live viewers
Shows how many visitors opened the same product page within the last few minutes.
Units sold
“Bought Y times” in a time window of your choice, for example 24 hours or 7 days.
Minimum values
Counters appear only above a threshold, so “1 person” never becomes the argument.
Anonymous aggregation
Counting works without cookie tracking and without storing profiles of single visitors.
Category badges
Small notes on listing tiles for items that are often bought or viewed.
Cache friendly
Numbers are loaded afterwards, so the full page cache of the page stays intact.
Why shoppers react to real numbers
Online shoppers cannot touch the product and wonder whether others choose it too. A note like “12 people are looking at this” or “bought 37 times this week” removes doubt and speeds up the decision. That is why merchants look for a Magento 2 Social Proof Counter that creates such notes automatically.
The catch: invented numbers are unfair practice and get exposed quickly. The Magento 2 Social Proof Counter therefore works only with measured values. If an item is new and rarely requested, the counter stays hidden instead of showing a small number that puts people off.
Counting live viewers without following visitors
When a product page loads, a small Alpine script sends an anonymous count pulse. The server groups the pulses per product within a short window, for example the last five minutes. No visitor ID is stored, only one number per product. The note appears once your minimum value is reached and can be rounded to a clean step if you like.
- Time window adjustable in minutes
- No visitor ID, no cookie tracking
- Minimum value and rounding configurable
Sales as a counter: “bought Y times” from real orders
The sales counter of the Magento 2 Social Proof Counter evaluates completed orders and sums them per product for your time window. Cancelled orders and returns can be deducted. A nightly cron job writes the totals into a table of their own, so the product page never has to evaluate large order volumes live. For configurable products you choose whether to add up all variants.
- Time window: 24 hours, 7 or 30 days
- Cancellations and returns deductible
- Variants merged into one value
Thresholds and rules: when the social proof counter appears
Not every number helps. You therefore define rules: from how many viewers or purchases a note appears, which categories it applies to and which products are excluded, such as gift cards or services. Texts can be adjusted per store view, with placeholders for the number.
- Thresholds overridable per category
- Exclude products and categories
- Texts with placeholder per store view
Privacy and performance in the Magento 2 Social Proof Counter
Counters are loaded through a lean endpoint and stored in dedicated tables, not in the product table. The full page cache stays active and the product page does not get slower. Because no personal data is stored, the effort for cookie consent is small; the legal review for your store remains with the shop operator. A cron job removes old counter values.
- Loaded via endpoint, full page cache stays
- Own tables with automatic cleanup
- No personal data stored
Where a Magento 2 Social Proof Counter works in your store
Typical situations in which real numbers make the decision easier.
Make bestsellers visible
Items that sold often during the week carry a note. New visitors quickly see what other shoppers like.
Promotions and campaigns
During a promotion the counter shows how many people are on the page at once, without inventing pressure.
High-priced products
For expensive items, “bought 18 times last month” eases the doubt before ordering.
Category pages
On listing tiles, small badges draw attention to items with strong demand.
Magento 2 Social Proof Counter: without and with the module
The difference from fixed texts and invented numbers.
| Topic | Without the module | With Mironsoft Social Proof Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Data basis | Fixed marketing texts or made-up numbers | Measured, aggregated values from your own store |
| Small numbers | “1 person” looks off-putting | Note only above your minimum value |
| Privacy | Tracking scripts from external providers | Anonymous counters without visitor ID |
| Performance | Extra scripts slow the page down | Loaded via Alpine.js, cache stays active |
| Maintenance | Texts by hand per product | Rules per category and store view |

Scope compared with purchase popups and urgency notices
The Recent Sales Notification module by Mironsoft shows single purchase popups such as “someone from Cologne bought 5 minutes ago”. The Magento 2 Social Proof Counter instead works with summarised numbers directly on the product and on category tiles, without showing single purchase events.
Both modules can be combined. A stock scarcity display or a countdown serves yet another purpose and stays untouched.
No download — personal setup instead
Social Proof Counter is not listed here as a ready-made download file for self-installation. The purchase is a service commission: we get in touch after the purchase, install the module in your shop and agree on time window, minimum values and texts together with you.
