Magento 2 order source tracking: know which channel really brings revenue
With Magento 2 order source tracking from Mironsoft, your shop records where the customer came from on every order. The module reads UTM parameters and the referrer on entry, remembers the attribution for a set number of days and writes it permanently to the order at checkout. In the admin you see the origin in the order grid and in a report per channel with orders, revenue and average basket value. Everything runs inside your shop with Alpine.js and without a third-party service.
UTM parameters
Source, medium, campaign, term and content are read on entry.
Referrer and landing page
The referring site and the first visited URL are stored too.
First or last touch
You choose whether the first or the last channel is attributed to the order.
Stored with the order
The origin is fixed on the order and does not vanish with the cookie.
Channel report
Orders, revenue and basket value per channel and period in the admin.
Consent
Tracking starts only once the cookie consent is given.
Why you should use Magento 2 order source tracking
If you run newsletters, price comparison, ads and search engines in parallel, you ask yourself at month end which channel brought the orders. External analytics tools answer that only as far as consent, ad blockers and measurement gaps allow. Merchants therefore look for Magento 2 order source tracking that stores the answer directly on the order in their own database.
The advantage of Magento 2 order source tracking: the origin sits next to revenue, payment method and customer group. You can compare channels by actual basket value, evaluate returns per campaign or assign back-end orders afterwards. The result does not replace an analytics platform but delivers a reliable figure from your own shop.
How Magento 2 order source tracking captures UTM, referrer and landing page
On the first page view a small Alpine component reads the UTM parameters from the address and the referring page from the browser. The values are remembered for the configured number of days and passed to the quote when the order is placed. If UTM parameters are missing, a rule assigns the referrer to a channel such as search, social or direct. Custom channel definitions with domain patterns are maintained in the admin.
- UTM parameters, referrer and landing page
- Attribution window in days is configurable
- Channel rules for search, email, social, price comparison and direct
First touch or last touch: choosing how to attribute the order source
Customers often visit several times before ordering. Magento 2 order source tracking offers two models. With first touch the module keeps the channel of the first visit, with last touch it is overwritten at every new entry. In the end the order receives exactly one attribution. Guest orders and registered customers behave the same. For orders your team creates in the back end, you set the source manually so that phone orders appear in the report as well.
- First or last touch as a global setting
- Exactly one attribution per order, guest orders included
- Manual source for back-end and phone orders
Report per channel: revenue and basket value by order source
The admin report groups your orders by source, medium or campaign. Each row shows the number of orders, revenue, average basket value and cancellation rate. Period, store view and customer group can be filtered, and the CSV export hands the figures to spreadsheets or accounting. In the order grid the origin appears as an extra column, in the order view as a block of its own.
- Grouping by source, medium or campaign
- Orders, revenue, average basket value and cancellation rate
- Filters for period, store view and customer group, CSV export
Consent and data protection for Magento 2 order source tracking
Storing the origin in the browser falls under the ePrivacy rules implemented in Germany by section 25 TDDDG and generally requires consent. The module therefore starts tracking only after consent to the matching cookie category and works together with the Mironsoft cookie consent. Without consent the source stays empty or is recorded as unknown. No IP addresses and no identifiers are stored, only channel values. Legal review is up to the shop operator.
- Tracking only after consent, otherwise source unknown
- No IP addresses, no personal identifier, only channel values
- Cookie description for your privacy policy

Magento 2 order source tracking: without and with the module
Magento 2 order source tracking compared with analysis in an external analytics service alone.

|---|---|---|
| Storage | Outside the shop in an analytics service | Fixed on the order in your database |
| Linking | Order and source separated | Source next to revenue, payment and customer group |
| Back-end orders | Not attributed | Manual source possible |
| Reporting | Own reports in a foreign interface | Report per channel in the Magento admin |
| Data protection | Data passed to third parties | Only channel values in your own shop |

How this differs from analytics integration, reports and order attributes
The analytics and tag manager integration measures visitor flows in the external service. The advanced reports and the report builder evaluate general shop data, and order attributes store free extra fields. Magento 2 order source tracking instead keeps the origin fixed on the order and in a report per channel.
The modules can be combined. Tracking uses a small Alpine.js component in the Hyvä theme and loads no additional library.
No download — personal setup instead
Order Source Tracking is not listed here as a ready-made download to install yourself. Buying means commissioning us: after your purchase we get in touch, install the module in your shop and agree channel rules, attribution and consent with you.
