Magento 2 order fraud rules: spot suspicious orders before goods leave the warehouse
With the Magento 2 order fraud rules module from Mironsoft, your shop scores every new order against rules you define yourself. Each rule adds points and the sum is the order score. If the score passes your threshold, the module holds the order and puts it on a review list in the admin, where your team decides whether to release or cancel it. The module works without a third-party service, never sends customer data elsewhere and uses Alpine.js in the Hyvä theme.
Rules with points
Each rule adds points, for example for mismatching addresses, large quantities or high-risk countries.
Thresholds
Below the lower value the order runs normally, above it the order is held or rejected.
Hold the order
Suspicious orders get their own status and stay out of shipping and exports.
Review list
All held orders with score and matching reasons at a glance.
Exceptions
Loyal customers, customer groups and safe payment methods can be excluded from scoring.
Log
Every evaluation is stored with rule, points and decision.
Why Magento 2 order fraud rules save money in everyday shop operation
Fraud rarely shows in a single feature. A different shipping address is normal, so is a large quantity or a first-time buyer. The combination stands out: a new email address, delivery to a country outside your usual market, ten units of the same item, shipping to a parcel locker. That is why merchants look for Magento 2 order fraud rules that weigh several signals instead of blocking single features outright.
Without checks you notice chargebacks and lost parcels weeks later. With Magento 2 order fraud rules, the few risky orders reach you before shipping while the vast majority pass through untouched. The module does not make the final call, it sorts and prepares the decision.
Rules and points: how Magento 2 order fraud rules calculate the score
In the admin you create rules and assign points. Typical rules check whether billing and shipping address are in different countries, whether the quantity of a line exceeds a limit, whether the customer orders for the first time or whether the email comes from a free mail provider. Cart value, shipping method and payment method can be included as well. The points are added up, and negative points for trustworthy traits are possible.
- Address, quantity, country, new customer, cart value and payment method as conditions
- Positive and negative points, the sum is the score
- Enable, sort and limit rules per store view
Review list in the admin: release or cancel held orders
When the score passes the review value, the module moves the order to a status of its own. Shipping jobs and exports ignore it until someone decides. In the review list your staff see the score, the triggered rules and the key order data. One click releases the order and returns it to the normal flow, or cancels it. Optionally an email goes to the review team for every hit.
- Own status, shipping and export wait for the decision
- Matching reasons and score directly in the list
- Email to the review team for every held order
Thresholds instead of blanket bans: how Magento 2 order fraud rules grade risk
You define two limits. Below the first one the order passes without any action. Between the limits it is held and checked by hand. Above the second one it can be rejected automatically if you want that. If you prefer a careful start, enable the test mode: the module calculates and logs but never touches an order. After a few weeks you can see whether your points are too strict or too loose.
- Two limits: release and review, optional automatic rejection
- Test mode without intervention to calibrate the rules
- Exceptions for customer groups, payment methods and returning customers
Log and data protection for Magento 2 order fraud rules
Every evaluation is stored with time, score, triggered rules and decision, so you can later explain why an order was held, for instance after a customer complaint. The module sends no data to external services. A retention period in days controls automatic deletion by cron. Because a fully automated rejection without human review can be problematic under Art. 22 GDPR, we recommend the setting hold instead of reject; the legal assessment is up to the shop operator.
- Log with score, rules and decision per order
- Retention period in days, deletion by cron
- No transfer to third parties, note on Art. 22 GDPR
Where Magento 2 order fraud rules make a difference in your shop
Typical situations from mail-order retail.
High-value electronics
First-time buyers with a high cart value and a different shipping address are checked before dispatch, loyal customers pass through.
Reseller patterns
Large quantities of one item sent to a parcel locker raise the score. Your team calls the customer or asks for details.
Foreign orders
Destination countries where you rarely sell add points without banning the country outright.
Mistaken orders
Even accidental orders with absurd quantities are held before goods leave the warehouse.
Magento 2 order fraud rules: without and with the module
The difference to manual spot checks.
| Topic | Without module | With Mironsoft Order Fraud Rules |
|---|---|---|
| Detection | Random spot checks in the order grid | Every order is scored against your rules |
| Timing | Often after shipping or a chargeback | Before shipping and export |
| Traceability | Notes or memory | Log with score and rule |
| Effort | Look at every order | Only hits in the review list |
| Privacy | Data transfer depending on external service | Everything stays in your own shop |

How this differs from the blacklist, payment restrictions and order approval
The Mironsoft customer blacklist blocks known email and IP addresses permanently. The payment restriction module hides payment methods by rule, and order approval puts a supervisor into B2B accounts. Magento 2 order fraud rules instead score every single order by probability and leave the decision to you.
All modules can be combined. The interface in the Hyvä theme uses Alpine.js and needs no additional library.
No download — personal setup instead
