6 features

Magento 2 expiry date management: keep batches in view before goods expire

With the Magento 2 expiry date management from Mironsoft you maintain batch number and best-before date per stock. At shipping the module suggests the batch with the earliest date, a warning list shows goods about to expire and, if you want, the customer sees the date on the product.

Batches per stock

With Magento 2 Expiry Date Management you manage several batches of a product with quantity, batch number and expiry date.

Goods receipt

On receipt you enter batch and date, also by CSV for larger deliveries.

FEFO hint

The batch with the earliest expiry is suggested for the shipment.

Warning list

A list shows batches that expire in the coming days, by email if you like.

Block on expiry

Expired batches are taken out of the sellable stock.

Display on the product

The best-before date optionally appears on the product page.

Why manage expiry dates

Why merchants maintain batches and shelf life systematically

Food, cosmetics, supplements or pet food have a shelf life. If the wrong batch is shipped, the oldest goods stay on the shelf and expire. That is why merchants look for Magento 2 expiry date management that tracks batches with dates and steers picking into the right order.

Without a system, lists in spreadsheets appear that nobody keeps current. With Magento 2 expiry date management you see for each product which batch lasts how long, and the warning list reports in good time which goods should still be sold, reduced in price or sorted out.

01Batches

Maintain batches and best-before dates: Magento 2 expiry date management per stock

In the admin you record batches for each product with number, quantity and expiry date. On goods receipt you enter the data or import it via CSV. The sum of the batches corresponds to the quantity in stock; if it differs, the module shows a note. Batches can be kept separately per source.

  • Several batches per product with quantity and date
  • CSV import for larger deliveries
  • Note on mismatch between batches and stock

02FEFO

FEFO hint in Magento 2 Expiry Date Management: ship the batch with the earliest date first

FEFO stands for First Expired, First Out. When you create the shipment, the module suggests the batch with the earliest best-before date and deducts the quantity from it. If one batch is not enough, it spreads over the next. The warehouse can change the suggestion; the deviation is logged. The chosen batch is stored on the shipment.

  • Suggestion of the batch with the earliest date
  • Spread over several batches for partial quantities
  • Log on manual deviation
03Warning list

Warning list for goods about to expire: expiry date management with email

The warning list shows all batches whose date falls within the configured days, sorted by expiry. A cron job sends an email daily or weekly to the chosen recipients if you want it. Expired batches can be removed from sellable stock with one click and exported. The list helps you promote goods in time, reduce their price or donate them.

  • Warning period adjustable in days
  • Email to recipients via cron
  • Block and export expired batches

Magento 2 Expiry Date Management: show the date on the product and define a minimum remaining shelf life

On the product page the module can show the earliest available best-before date. With a minimum remaining shelf life you define when a batch is no longer sold, for example when fewer than 30 days remain. This keeps deliveries to customers reliable. Please review the legal labeling requirements yourself.

  • Earliest date optionally on the product page
  • Minimum remaining shelf life per product or global
  • Legal review by the shop owner
Use cases

Where Magento 2 Expiry Date Management helps in daily shop operations

Typical merchants with perishable goods.

Food and delicatessen

With Magento 2 Expiry Date Management, batches with different dates are shipped in FEFO order, and the warning list reports expiring goods in time.

Cosmetics and care

Products with a shelf life or production date are managed in batches and checked at shipping.

Supplements and pet food

With limited shelf life, the minimum remaining time ensures customers do not receive goods that are almost expired.

Wholesale with stock goods

Several deliveries of the same product are kept apart so that older batches go out first.

Scope

How this differs from warehouse management and bin locations

The Magento 2 Expiry Date Management module from Mironsoft manages batches and shelf life, but no bin locations, wave picking or handheld processes of a warehouse management system. If you use an external warehouse system, you can reconcile batches via CSV; the module remains the place where the batch for an order is stored.

Interface and storefront display need no additional library and fit Hyvä and Alpine.js.
