Magento 2 deposit fees: keep returnable containers apart from the goods and show them
With the Magento 2 deposit fees module from Mironsoft you store deposit types and amounts on the product. In the shop the deposit appears as a separate line, apart from the goods, in cart, checkout, order email and document. Customers see what is goods and what is deposit.
Deposit types
With Magento 2 Deposit Fees you create types such as bottle, crate or keg with an amount and assign them to products.
Separate line
Deposit times quantity is shown as its own row in the totals, not hidden in the goods price.
Visible everywhere
The deposit appears in the cart, in checkout, in the order email and on the document.
Configurable tax
You set the tax treatment per deposit type; the review stays with the shop owner.
Not discountable
Coupons and price rules act on the goods; the deposit stays unchanged.
Return notice
A text on the product and in checkout explains how empties are returned.
Why deposits and returnable containers need a line item of their own
Drinks, crates, kegs or reusable containers are sold with a deposit that is not part of the value of the goods. Building the deposit into the price confuses customers and complicates bookkeeping. That is why merchants look for Magento 2 deposit fees as a separate line that shows the customer and the document clearly what is goods and what is deposit.
The separation matters for coupons and discounts too: the deposit is not discounted and is refunded on return. With Magento 2 deposit fees as a separate item, totals, tax and reports stay clean, without workarounds in price fields or bundle products.
Set up Magento 2 deposit fees: deposit types with amount and tax
In the admin you maintain a list of deposit types, each with a name, amount, tax treatment and description. Typical examples are bottle, crate or keg. You can set the amounts differently per website. A deposit type can be deactivated without losing assignments.
- Name, amount and tax class per deposit type
- Amount can differ per website
- Deactivate without losing assignments
Assign deposits to products: individually, by mass action or CSV
In the product form you choose the deposit type and, if needed, the number of containers per sales unit. A six-pack of bottles has six bottles with deposit, a crate has twelve plus the crate itself. Several deposit types per product are possible. For catalogs with many items there are mass action and CSV import.
- Several deposit types per product, quantity per sales unit
- Mass action in the product grid
- CSV import of the assignment
Show Magento 2 deposit fees separately in the cart, checkout and document
In the cart a separate row for the deposit appears below the items, and in checkout it is part of the totals. Order email, customer account and PDF document contain the same row, so no discrepancies arise. You set the label per store view. The display is built with Alpine.js and Tailwind and needs no additional library.
- Own row in cart, checkout and totals
- Same row in email, account and document
- Label per store view
Magento 2 Deposit Fees and returns: return notice and refund of the deposit
On the product and in checkout a notice explains how and where empties are returned. For a credit memo or return the deposit can be refunded as well; the row appears separately in the credit memo too. Taking back empties in the warehouse is not part of the module. Please review the tax and legal treatment of deposits yourself.
- Return notice on the product and in checkout
- Deposit refundable in credit memos and returns
- Legal review by the shop owner

How this differs from tax modules, documents and empties management
The Magento 2 Deposit Fees module from Mironsoft shows the deposit and includes it in the totals. It replaces neither bookkeeping nor an empties management in the warehouse. How deposits are treated for tax is something to clarify with your tax advisor; the module reflects your decision.
The display needs no additional library and fits Hyvä and Alpine.js. Document and emails take the deposit row from the order data.
No download — personal setup instead
The Deposit Fees module is not listed here as a ready-made download for self-installation. The purchase is a commission: after the purchase we get in touch, install the module in your shop and agree deposit types, amounts and tax treatment with you.
