Magento 2 CMS Block Scheduler: content appears when it is needed
A campaign banner at the start of Black Friday, a notice about the Christmas delivery deadline, an opening-hours block only on weekends: anyone switching these by hand gets up at night. The Mironsoft Magento 2 CMS block scheduler turns any CMS block on or off by date, time and weekday. The blocks stay ordinary Magento blocks and work in the Hyvä theme without extra JavaScript.
Start and end
Each block gets a time window with date and time. Before and after it stays invisible.
Recurring
Weekdays and times of day repeat automatically, for example every Friday from 8 to 12.
Several time windows
A block can have several windows, for example spring and autumn or two times a day.
Exception days
Enter holidays and company vacation as exceptions, and the block stays off on those days.
Fallback block
Outside the time window another block can appear instead of an empty area.
Time zone
All times follow the time zone of the store view, not that of the server.
Why you should schedule CMS blocks in Magento 2
For CMS blocks Magento offers only the switch active or inactive. Campaigns, however, have a beginning and an end, notices apply to weekdays, and seasons return every year. With the switch someone must be logged in at the right minute and remember to switch the block off afterwards.
The Magento 2 CMS block scheduler moves this work from a person to a schedule. You prepare content, enter the time window and can rely on the switch. That saves night shifts and prevents the classic of an expired campaign banner hanging in the shop for weeks.
Magento 2 CMS Block Scheduler: start, end and time of day
You find the Magento 2 CMS block scheduler in the CMS block as the tab Schedule. There you enter start and end with date and time. If the start is missing, the block applies immediately; if the end is missing, it stays unlimited. Inputs are validated: an end before the start or overlapping windows of the same block are reported when saving. The block itself stays active in the admin; only the schedule controls visibility.
- Start and end with date and time
- Validation of contradictory or overlapping windows
- Block stays active, the schedule controls visibility
Weekdays and times of day in the Magento 2 CMS Block Scheduler
Besides fixed dates the Magento 2 CMS block scheduler sets up recurrences: selected weekdays plus a period within the day. The notice about phone consulting appears only during service hours, the weekend discount only from Friday to Sunday. Recurrences can be combined with a period, for example every Saturday in December. You enter exception days as a list of dates, and the block stays off on those days.
- Weekdays and time-of-day windows combinable
- Limit to a period such as December
- Exception days for holidays and company vacation
Magento 2 CMS Block Scheduler: fallback block and preview for any date
When a block expires, the Magento 2 CMS block scheduler lets a fallback block take its place, for example the general banner instead of the campaign. With the preview you check in the storefront what the page looks like on any date. Preview mode is available only to logged-in admin users; visitors never see it. A calendar overview in the admin shows all blocks with a schedule at a glance.
- Fallback block instead of an empty area
- Preview for any date, admin users only
- Calendar overview of all scheduled blocks
Cache and performance of the Magento 2 CMS Block Scheduler
Scheduled content and page cache only get along if the switch reaches the cache. The module calculates the next switch time and renews the cache tags of the block precisely at that minute, not the whole page cache. The page stays cached and fast and still shows the right block on time. You set the check interval of the cron run in the admin.
- Next switch time is calculated
- Targeted renewal of the block cache tags
- Check interval of the cron run configurable
Where the Magento 2 CMS Block Scheduler helps in daily shop work
Typical situations in which a schedule replaces manual work.
Promotions and campaigns
Black Friday, summer sale, Mother’s Day: banners and notices start on time and end by themselves.
Opening and service hours
The notice about phone consulting appears only at the times someone answers the phone.
Delivery deadlines
At Christmas a block with the last order date appears, in January it disappears again.
Seasonal content
The same blocks in the same period year after year, set up once and valid permanently.

Differences to countdown timer, header notification and audience targeting
The Mironsoft countdown timer shows a visible countdown, the header notification maintains a bar in the header, and the popup module controls overlays. The Magento 2 CMS block scheduler is the general solution: it switches any CMS block by time. Whoever wants to show blocks by customer group or country uses the CMS Block Targeting module for that.
Both modules can be combined, for example a trade banner only in December. The output remains ordinary Magento block output, without an additional library and without jQuery.
No download, personal setup instead
CMS Block Scheduler is not listed here as a ready-made download file for self-installation. The purchase is a service commission: we get in touch after the purchase, install the module in your shop and agree on schedules, fallbacks and cache behavior together with you.
