6 features

Set the Magento 2 Cash on Delivery Fee by country and shipping method

With the Mironsoft Magento 2 Cash on Delivery Fee you charge a fee for the cash on delivery payment method that matches the costs of your carrier. The amount depends on delivery country and shipping method, tax is shown correctly, and the customer sees the fee as a line of its own in the checkout. You maintain the settings in a table in the admin.

Fee per country

Store a separate fee for Germany, Austria and other delivery countries.

Fee per shipping method

Different shipping methods get different amounts, for example standard and express.

Fixed amount or percentage

The fee is a fixed amount, a percentage of the order or both with minimum and maximum.

Correct tax

The fee gets a tax class and appears in invoice and credit memo with the matching tax rate.

Display in the checkout

The fee appears as a separate line in the totals, in the cart note and in the order confirmation.

Free threshold

Above an order value that you define, the fee is waived.

Why a separate cash on delivery fee

Why merchants show the Magento 2 Cash on Delivery Fee separately

The carrier charges a fee for cash on delivery, and the amount differs by destination country and shipping method. If the shop pays it alone, the margin on small orders melts away. If the customer pays a flat amount, it rarely fits every country. That is why merchants look for a Magento 2 Cash on Delivery Fee that can be graded by country and shipping method.

Core Magento offers a single setting for cash on delivery. The Magento 2 Cash on Delivery Fee adds a table that maps exactly the costs you bear yourself. The customer sees in the checkout what is charged in addition, and the fee appears transparently on the invoice.

01Fee table

Magento 2 Cash on Delivery Fee as a table by country and shipping method

In the admin you maintain a table with country, shipping method and fee. If a country has no entry of its own, a default fee applies. The table can be imported and exported as CSV so that changes in carrier prices are entered quickly. If cash on delivery does not apply to a country, you simply do not list it there, and the payment method does not appear in the checkout.

  • Country, shipping method and fee in one table
  • Default fee as fallback
  • CSV import and export of the table

02Calculation and tax

Calculation and tax of the Magento 2 Cash on Delivery Fee

The fee can be a fixed amount, a percentage of the order value or a combination with a minimum and a maximum. You choose a tax class so that the fee appears in totals, invoice and credit memo with the right rate. For partial credit memos the fee is refunded only if you configure it. Discounts and coupons do not change the fee unless you explicitly want them to.

  • Fixed amount, percentage or combination with minimum and maximum
  • Tax class for correct display
  • Refund on credit memo configurable
03Display in the checkout

Make the Magento 2 Cash on Delivery Fee visible in the checkout

As soon as the customer selects cash on delivery, the fee appears as a line of its own in the totals, and the grand total updates without a page reload. A note on the payment method names the fee even before selection, so nobody is surprised. Your email text and the order confirmation contain the line as well. The structure follows the Hyvä checkout and uses Alpine.js.

  • Separate totals line, updated without reload
  • Note on the payment method with the amount
  • Fee in order confirmation and email

04Threshold and exceptions

Free threshold, customer groups and exceptions

Above an order value you define, the fee is waived, for example as an incentive for larger orders. For single customer groups the fee can be switched off, for instance for regular customers. If free shipping is active, you decide whether the cash on delivery fee is still charged. All rules apply per website and store view.

  • Free threshold by order value
  • Customer groups without fee
  • Rule for orders with free shipping

Delimitation

Delimitation from extra fees and payment restriction

The extra fee module from Mironsoft charges general fees, for example per category or customer group, independent of the payment method. Payment restriction hides payment methods by rules. The Magento 2 Cash on Delivery Fee is tailored to cash on delivery and knows country, shipping method and tax of this payment method.

The modules can be combined. Price indications and the disclosure of fees must comply with legal requirements; the review lies with the shop operator.
