6 features

Magento 2 bulk image upload: assign hundreds of images by file name in one run

With the Magento 2 bulk image upload from Mironsoft you upload a ZIP archive or a folder of images, and the module assigns every file to the right product based on its name. SKU-100_1.jpg becomes the main image of SKU-100, SKU-100_2.jpg the second gallery image. A preview shows beforehand which file matches which product and where problems exist. The module works in the admin without jQuery and processes large volumes in batches in the background. Magento 2 bulk image upload is configured in a few minutes.

Assignment by SKU

The file name contains the SKU, the module finds the product and attaches the image.

ZIP or folder

Images arrive as a ZIP upload or from a server folder, even several hundred at once.

Preview before import

A table shows product, role, position and possible errors for every file.

Image roles and order

Base, small and thumbnail image as well as gallery position follow from the file name.

Replace or add

You choose whether existing images are kept, added to or replaced.

In the background

Processing runs in batches via queue or cron and does not block the admin.

Why bulk assignment

Why merchants do not want to upload product images one by one in Magento 2

Anyone who maintains a catalogue of several hundred products usually receives images as a folder from the supplier, the photographer or an ERP system. In the Magento admin every image would have to be uploaded individually to the right product, put in order and given the right role. That costs days and causes errors. Many merchants therefore search for Magento 2 bulk image upload, an image import by SKU or a mass upload for product images.

With Magento 2 bulk image upload, sensible file naming is enough. The rest runs automatically: assignment, order, roles and labelling. Errors become visible in the preview beforehand, not only in the shop.

01File names

Magento 2 bulk image upload: how to name the files

With Magento 2 bulk image upload, the naming scheme is simple and adjustable in the configuration. The part before the separator is the SKU, followed optionally by a number for the gallery position and a keyword for the role. SKU-100.jpg becomes the base image, SKU-100_2.jpg the second gallery image and SKU-100_swatch.jpg the swatch image. You define separator, role keywords and allowed formats such as JPG, PNG or WebP yourself.

  • SKU, position and role are in the file name
  • Separator and keywords adjustable
  • JPG, PNG and WebP, maximum size adjustable

The preview shows every assignment before the import

After the upload, the module analyses all files and lists them in a table with thumbnail, detected product, role, position and status. Unknown SKUs, duplicate positions, files that are too large or unsupported formats are marked. You import only the error-free rows or correct the files and upload again. Nothing is changed before you confirm.

03Options

Replace, add and label

In Magento 2 bulk image upload you choose whether existing images of a product are kept, added to or fully replaced. The alt text can be generated from a template with product name and position, and the image label can be filled from a template as well. Optionally the image is set only for a certain store view. When replacing, the module removes the old images from the gallery, and your usual image housekeeping cleans up the files themselves.

Background processing and log

With Magento 2 bulk image upload, large imports are worked off in batches, so neither the admin nor the shop becomes noticeably slower. Progress can be followed in the admin. After the run a log of successful and failed files is available and can be exported as CSV. That way you rework only the failed cases. Rights for upload and import can be assigned separately via ACL.

  • Log per run, CSV export
  • ACL rights for upload and import separate

Where Magento 2 bulk image upload helps in daily work

Typical situations in which Magento 2 bulk image upload saves a lot of time.

New supplier catalogue

The supplier sends an image folder named by article numbers. Assigning takes minutes instead of days.

Photo shoot

The photographer names the files by SKU. After the upload all products have images.

Relaunch and migration

When changing shop systems thousands of images come along. The preview shows where file names do not match the SKU.

Later additions

Further gallery images are added to existing products without losing the old ones.

Differentiation

Differentiation from the alt text generator and image cleanup

The alt text generator from Mironsoft fills in missing alt texts on existing images, and the image cleanup removes orphaned files from the media folder. Magento 2 bulk image upload, by contrast, fills the product gallery by assigning new images to the right products in bulk.

All modules can be combined. The interface works in the admin without jQuery, and the module loads nothing in the shop storefront.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything important about naming, preview, errors and how the purchase works.

How can I upload many product images at once in Magento 2?
With Magento 2 bulk image upload you upload a ZIP archive or pick a server folder. The module assigns every file to a product via the SKU in its name.
How do the files have to be named?
The SKU comes first, optionally followed by a number for the position and a keyword for the role, for example SKU-100_2.jpg. The scheme is adjustable.
Can I check what will happen before the import?
Yes. The preview shows product, role, position and status for each file. The import runs only after you confirm.
What happens with an unknown SKU?
The file is marked in the preview and not imported. The log states the reason.
Are existing images overwritten?
Only if you choose so. You can keep, add to or replace existing images.
Can I set base, small and swatch images?
Yes, through keywords in the file name. Without a keyword the first image is set as base, small and thumbnail image.
Which formats and sizes are possible?
JPG, PNG and WebP. You set the maximum size per file, which should fit the limits of your server.
Does Magento 2 bulk image upload work with Hyvä?
Yes. The module works in the admin without jQuery and loads nothing in the shop storefront.
How does it differ from the alt text generator and image cleanup?
Those modules maintain existing images. Magento 2 bulk image upload assigns new images to products in large numbers.
Can I download and install the module myself?
No. This offer is not a download product. After the purchase we install and configure the module personally in your shop.
