Magento 2 category CMS block: place content where it counts
Mironsoft Category Content Blocks handles the Magento 2 category CMS block without layout XML. In the category you pick existing CMS blocks and assign each a position: above the product list, inside the list, below it or in the sidebar. Editors work on their own; a developer is no longer needed for this.
Standard Magento offers one CMS block choice per category for the display mode and the description, but no free placement of several blocks. Anyone needing advice banners, shipping notices or campaigns at specific spots otherwise resorts to layout files or widget instances. Handling the Magento 2 category CMS block through an admin table is far simpler.
The extension is built for Hyvä Themes, renders server-side and needs no additional JavaScript. We set it up in your shop and create the first assignments together with you.
Editorial content exactly where it works
Banners, advice texts and notices are assigned to a category via the Magento 2 category CMS block, without touching layout XML.
Several blocks per category
Assign as many existing CMS blocks to a category as you need.
Four positions
Above the list, inside the list, below the list or in the sidebar.
Block inside the list
For example after the 8th tile: a banner spans the full row width.
Inheritance
Blocks of the parent category also apply to subcategories, if you want that.
Scheduling
From/to dates for limited campaigns, so nobody has to switch the block off later.
Store view and customer group
Different blocks per language, or for resellers versus end customers.
Magento 2 category CMS block: a table instead of layout XML
In the category you find a new “Content blocks” section. Each row links a CMS block to a position, a sort order and optional conditions. Editors need no developer to place a delivery-time notice or an advice banner in a category.
A preview aid in the category shows which blocks apply to which store view. Missing or disabled CMS blocks are flagged in the admin so no empty areas appear.
- Pick the block from a list of existing CMS blocks
- Position and sort order per row
- Active switch per row for quick testing
Serving a Magento 2 category CMS block in the middle of the product list
For the middle position you define after how many tiles the block appears. It breaks the tile row and spans the full width. The module accounts for the current column count so no half-empty row appears, and it omits the block on page 2 if you choose so.
On small screens with a single column the block appears after the same number of tiles, so the layout stays predictable everywhere.
- Position as number of tiles before the block
- Aligned to the current column count
- Optionally on the first page only
Assign once, let it work down the tree
A shipping notice often applies to an entire category including subcategories. With inheritance you assign the block only once. Individual subcategories can opt out. A date range starts and ends limited blocks automatically; it is evaluated at render time, not by cron.
Date ranges are evaluated at render time. Combined with the full page cache, the module makes sure the cache is refreshed reliably when a campaign starts and ends.
- Inheritance switchable per row
- A subcategory can exclude inherited blocks
- Validity from/to in the shop’s time zone
Sidebar blocks and Hyvä: lean without extra JavaScript
The sidebar block appears below the layered navigation and drops under the product list on phones, so filters and products keep priority. The module renders server-side, and Alpine.js is only used where your CMS block itself contains interactive elements. The Magento 2 category CMS block stays fast that way.
- Sidebar below layered navigation
- Below the product list on mobile
- No JavaScript of its own in the module
Typical use cases for the Magento 2 category CMS block
Advice banners in categories
A “Personal advice” banner at the top of premium categories, a different one in entry-level categories. With the Magento 2 category CMS block you maintain both without code.
Shipping and delivery notices
A delivery-time note in the sidebar applies to an entire category including subcategories, assigned once and inherited.
Campaigns with a date range
Summer campaign from June to August: the block starts and ends automatically, nobody has to remember it.
Reseller and consumer content
Resellers see a block with terms, consumers a block with a warranty note, in the same category.
Layout XML versus Magento 2 category CMS block
| Criterion | Without the module (layout XML/widget) | With Category Content Blocks |
|---|---|---|
| Changing a position | Developer and deployment | Edit a row in the admin |
| Several blocks per category | Laborious for each category | Any number of assignments |
| Middle of the product list | Template customization required | Position after n tiles selectable |
| Scheduling | Switch on and off manually | From/to date per assignment |
| Subcategories | Maintain each one | Inheritance with exceptions |
| Customer groups | Custom coding | Selectable per assignment |

How it differs from related Mironsoft modules
Category Bottom Description
A single text field below the product list. The Magento 2 category CMS block instead assigns any number of blocks to several positions.
Landing Pages
Creates pages of their own with their own URL. The blocks here complement existing categories and create no new pages.
Category Images
Manages the images of a category. CMS blocks deliver editorial content with text, links and widgets instead.
No download — personal setup instead
The Magento 2 category CMS block (Category Content Blocks) is not offered here as a download file for self-installation. The purchase is a service commission: we install the module in your shop and set up the positions you want and the first assignments together with you.
